TSI Healthcare Commends Efforts of New Healthcare IT Plan
Date:6/18/2009

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., June 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- TSI Healthcare Inc., a leader in healthcare information systems sales and support, announced its eager support of the American Stimulus Bill and the development of an educational web seminar on the topic. The bill features a minimum of $19 billion in government funding specifically targeting the implementation of healthcare information technology or HIT.

"These past few months have shown a very important development in our industry," says David Dickson, Jr., President and CEO of TSI Healthcare. "This proactive approach undertaken by Congress and the Obama administration will help address many of the issues that physicians and patients face today. It represents a step toward improving the practice of medicine and enhancing patient care. TSI Healthcare is proud to be part of the new efforts to reduce cost, improve efficiency, and move our industry forward."

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 allocates approximately $17 billion in Medicare/Medicaid incentives both directly and indirectly benefiting physicians and hospitals. The Act also sets aside roughly $2.5 billion for the development of HIT and $300 million toward regional efforts of creating health information exchanges. Practices and health centers which demonstrate "meaningful" use by 2011 are eligible to receive up to an $18,000 bonus from Medicare payments the first year and progressively lower amounts in subsequent years, totaling over $44,000 per provider over the five year period.

"We must understand that for physicians, there is a sense of urgency," explained Dickson. "Installing an EHR as soon as possible will help ensure that practices achieve 'meaningful' use by the first year of the requirement, allowing for full access to the incentives from day one."
