TSI Healthcare Commends Efforts of New Healthcare IT Plan
Date:6/18/2009

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., June 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- TSI Healthcare Inc., a leader in healthcare information systems sales and support, announced its eager support of the American Stimulus Bill and the development of an educational web seminar on the topic. The bill features a minimum of $19 billion in government funding specifically targeting the implementation of healthcare information technology or HIT.

"These past few months have shown a very important development in our industry," says David Dickson, Jr., President and CEO of TSI Healthcare. "This proactive approach undertaken by Congress and the Obama administration will help address many of the issues that physicians and patients face today. It represents a step toward improving the practice of medicine and enhancing patient care. TSI Healthcare is proud to be part of the new efforts to reduce cost, improve efficiency, and move our industry forward."

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 allocates approximately $17 billion in Medicare/Medicaid incentives both directly and indirectly benefiting physicians and hospitals. The Act also sets aside roughly $2.5 billion for the development of HIT and $300 million toward regional efforts of creating health information exchanges. Practices and health centers which demonstrate "meaningful" use by 2011 are eligible to receive up to an $18,000 bonus from Medicare payments the first year and progressively lower amounts in subsequent years, totaling over $44,000 per provider over the five year period.

"We must understand that for physicians, there is a sense of urgency," explained Dickson. "Installing an EHR as soon as possible will help ensure that practices achieve 'meaningful' use by the first year of the requirement, allowing for full access to the incentives from day one."

TSI Healthcare's direct and indirect affiliation with various industry organizations, including the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT), has helped continue the process of ensuring that its products and services meet the potential government requirements. The EHR systems implemented by TSI Healthcare are designed with specialty specific content, have one of the industry's highest levels of customizability, and are interoperable with laboratories, hospitals and pharmacies.

In addition, TSI Healthcare features its "Perpetual Growth Cycle," designed to help provide the services necessary to maintain 'meaningful' use and maximum utilization beyond implementation. The focus is on promoting a continuous training, support and evaluation cycle to help practices take advantage of all the benefits their systems have to offer.

"TSI Healthcare's upfront efforts have positioned us as a leader in the industry. We are steadily working to make certain that our clients and staff are up-to-speed with the new legislation," commented Dickson. "Our service will be uninterrupted and we can continue to offer superior customer service and provide our current products to help organizations make the necessary transition from paper to electronic records."

As a proactive approach to educating physicians on the legislation and its benefits, TSI Healthcare has developed an online seminar for interested physicians. The 45 minute session will feature Charles Jarvis, Assistant VP of Healthcare Industry Services & Government Relations for NextGen(R) Healthcare, a valued partner of TSI Healthcare. Approximately 30 to 45 minutes will focus on up-to-date information on the latest developments of the bill and a 15 minute Q & A session will follow. The seminar is scheduled for June 23rd at 10:00am. Registration information can be found on their website at www.tsihealthcare.com under 'latest news' or by emailing stimulus@tsihealthcare.com.
