TRICARE CRISIS: QmedRx Spotlights Potential Resolution to Budgetary Dilemma

New York. New York (PRWEB) July 29, 2013

QmedRx, a national compounding pharmacy, has been following the changes that are currently being made to TRICARE coverage closely. Due to budget cuts and other considerations, this insurance organization, which is available to military personnel and their family members, is issuing a reduction in coverage for several key services. Among these are treatment options for autistic children and coverage of compound medications, which are essential for individuals who have allergies or, for other reasons, require that their prescriptions are specially formulated. According to a recent article published by Government Executive, though, raising the extremely low cost at which TRICARE is available to individuals could help offset budgetary limitations and improve the quality of coverage that military families receive.

The article asserts: "The government could save billions of dollars annually over the next decade by increasing the amount military retirees and their families pay for health care, according to a new cost estimate from the Congressional Budget Office." Called the CBO, this nonpartisan organization explains: "The military's massive health insurance program offers millions of service members, retirees and their dependents quality care at a relatively low cost. That's what the government aimed for when it created the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services in 1966, now known as TRICARE. But the price of that success has been high for Uncle Sam: The $53 billion program now consumes roughly 10 percent of the Pentagon's nonwar budget. By 2030, CBO estimates TRICARE will eat up more than 14 percent of the Defense's budget."

While lawmakers have not shown an interest in hiking up coverage rates for military families, the fact remains that increasing the amount that these individuals pay for healthcare benefits (a figure that is already quite low) could save a great deal of money. This, in turn, could allow TRICARE to continue providing access to services like compound drug coverage and autism treatments.

The professionals at QmedRx urge individuals to consider whether or not this approach would be best for the country as a whole. "Ultimately, we cannot, as a company, say whether or not increasing TRICARE rates is the best move," comments a representative from the pharmacy. "However, we can say that it is critical that patients retain access to compound pharmacy services, and this access is being threatened by the cuts that TRICARE is having to make. As such, we strongly encourage lawmakers and their constituents to consider all of the options that are open to them and to choose the route that provides the best coverage—not necessarily the most inexpensive—to military families."

Compound pharmacy services are crucial for individuals who need access to prescriptions that lack certain ingredients or are not traditionally available in specific forms due to allergies and other issues. As such, QmedRx asserts that compound pharmacy services are crucial to military families and hopes that TRICARE can find a way to continue to offer access to this form of healthcare.

[QmedRx is a compound pharmacy that provides custom pharmaceuticals to its patients. Opened in 1990, the organization has established a presence in all 48 states and is dedicated to providing the utmost standards of customer service. Aside from traditional compounding activities, the professionals at this organization are also focused on the following specialties: transdermal pain and scar relief, Lyme disease, sinus care, wound care, podiatry, and nutrition.
