ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- System Planning Corporation today announced the introduction of PharmaTrak, a highly-reliable, industry-specific derivative of its patented GlobalTrak(R) asset monitoring and tracking system engineered to meet the rigorous tracking and monitoring requirements for pharmaceuticals and biomedical supplies.

PharmaTrak provides real-time tracking and monitoring throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain from manufacturer to distributor to retailer or clinical trial - without gaps - as shipments move from truck to ships, back to surface transport, and through distribution centers.

PharmaTrak's sensor suite begins with basic security monitors such as door position, light, and acoustic detectors. The industry-essential temperature sensors on PharmaTrak can be set to monitor and record temperature, report periodic average readings at customer-determined intervals, and send immediate alerts if excursions beyond acceptable ranges occur. Humidity, shock, and vibration sensors also can be calibrated to alert or report as needed.

"There is two-way communication between the asset monitoring unit positioned on the shipment and a network operations center called the Information Management Bureau (IMB) via cellular or satellite networks," said Joseph McKinney, GlobalTrak(R) vice president for business development.

"The IMB offers stakeholders secure, online access to shipment data. Sensor data records can be reviewed and alerting instructions updated through user configurable business rules," McKinney said.
