Symbiosis Gathering 2013 - A Multi-Dimensional Event
Date:8/6/2013

Oakdale, California (PRWEB) August 06, 2013

The insomniacs and mad scientists who produced last year’s epic Pyramid Eclipse present Symbiosis Gathering 2013 (#SG13) at the Woodward Reservoir Regional Park on September 19th to 23rd, 2013. The five-day camping festival features a massive lineup over four main stages playing a diverse array of live and electronic music, global and galactic bass, house, gypsy, sacred and world fusion. The gathering coincides with the Harvest Full Moon, the Autumnal Equinox and the International Day of Peace.

The multi-dimensional event hosts over 200 cutting edge musical acts from around the world, including the much anticipated US debut of Iamamiwhoami, as well as performances by Sound Tribe Sector 9, Poliça, Mount Kimbie, Hudson Mohawke, Emancipator, Active Child, RL Grime, Gesaffelstein, Lunice, Popof, Brodinski, Star Slinger, Chet Faker, Vau de Vire Society and many, many more.

The Edwardian Ball Roadshow sets sail on its maiden voyage LIVE at Symbiosis Gathering 2013 – enter into a magical world of theatrical entertainment with an eccentric assortment of music, aerial acrobatics, circus acts, offbeat fashion and "ballroom" dancing. This is the first time that San Francisco’s legendary Edwardian Ball will be transported to a festival, condensing their expansive world into a four-hour festival delight. Be a part of it all – dress elegantly in Edwardian period attire, creative goth, stylish steampunk or beautifully bizarre costumes inspired by Edward Gorey. Join the co-hosts of The Edwardian Ball, avant-cabaret troupe, Vau de Vire Society, and the Pagan Lounge ensemble, Rosin Coven. Plus sonic evocateur Delachaux, dirty electro swing DJ Shakti Bliss, electric-shovel virtuoso Shovelman, The Klown Korps, Fou Fou Ha, exotic steam machinery by Kinetic Steam Works and an elaborate fashion show by Dark Garden Corsetry. Come experience the Edwardian Ball Roadshow, a window into their whimsical world returning to SF and LA, Winter 2014.

For five full days, attendees will experience a festival reality unique on the West Coast. There are no day passes to Symbiosis. You’re either all in, or you’re not in at all. As the first people get to the gate for early arrival, an on-site, week-long permaculture intensive will be wrapping up and setting the gathering’s uniquely green vibe. As attendees set up camp and scan the horizon they will gape at mythic structures and visionary decor while singling out their spot for afternoon swimming.

Much more than just another music festival, Symbiosis is a greener, grounded gathering that offers attendees the opportunity to both trip the light fantastic beneath the stars and attend daytime talks and workshops that span the spectrum of human experience, from ancient wisdom traditions to modern sustainability science and beyond.

For a week, attendees are part of an ecologically-minded community. During the day, they can craft their own custom curriculum from a selection of courses, included with their ticket price, covering topics including yoga, dance, capoeira, improv, spoken word and story-telling, foodopolies, resource extraction, permaculture, conservation, biodiversity, fracking, parenting, mushroom science, stargazing, cacao, alternative economies, festival culture, community organizing, killer plastics, vocal alchemy, the future of humanity and much more.

Workshops will feature luminaries including nationally syndicated radio host Caroline Casey, a performance by legendary slam poet Saul Williams, co-founder of The Yes Men Andy Bichlbaum, Standup & Improv by Stranger and Kill All Comedy on a special appearance from Chicago’s legendary comedy factory The Second City, Healing The Land by First Nation presenter John Mosley, Transforming Spaces Through Permaculture by Ryan Rising, Closed-Loop Aquaponics by Gerasimos Christoforatos, The Last Stand of the Orangutans by Rainforest Action Network’s Laurel Sutherlin, Protecting Endangered Biodiversity by Attorney Tim Ream, Radical Parenting with Tomas Moniz, Plant Human Coevolution and the Origins of the Imagination with enthnobotanist Dennis McKenna, a spoken word performance by New York City’s Climbing PoeTree, and many, many more.

"We support a thriving community of artists, musicians, educators, performers, and appreciators of the finer things. The Gathering provides a temporary home where people can celebrate, dance, and be entertained in an ecologically responsible manner," says Kevin KoChen of Symbiosis Events.

Symbiosis Gathering casts a wide net in drawing from the vibrant and artistic movement that the San Francisco Bay area is well known for and brings in sustainable initiatives and practices to the forefront of the festival experience. Measures include a reusable dish program in the dining area, a Zero Waste policy, procuring environmentally-friendly sources of energy and materials, and educating about sustainability through various educational workshops and activities.

"The foundation of this event is built around principles of ecological, global, and holistic awareness," noted Karen KoChen of Symbiosis Events. "Our team has brought together an eclectic program to bring these concepts to life in an interactive, co-creative, and highly innovative way."
