"Statewide programs like the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program and various organizations around the state are doing their part to help the underinsured and uninsured in Illinois. Susan G. Komen for the Cure has a strong Affiliate presence in Illinois as well as surrounding states and needs to take a lead in closing gaps so that all Illinois residents will have information and access to breast health care. That's why we are gathering in Springfield to tackle these important issues," said Executive Director Linda Maricle from the Komen Peoria Memorial Affiliate.
Komen Affiliates serving Illinois are working together to close gaps in order to serve all communities in Illinois with the most up-to-date breast health information. Of the funds raised by these Affiliates through events such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure(R), 75 percent of net proceeds stays in the local communities for health programs while the remaining amount funds breast cancer research.
About Susan G. Komen for the Cure(R)
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure(R), we have invested more than $1.2 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
