Surviving Mesothelioma Reports on New UK Resource for Mesothelioma Research

Mesothelioma researchers have a new resource to assist them in their ongoing search for new and better ways to diagnose and treat malignant pleural mesothelioma. Surviving Mesothelioma has more on the opening of a new biobank. Click here to read the new article now.

The developers of MesobanK UK, a biobank for samples of tissue, blood and lung fluid from mesothelioma patients, say the facility is now accepting requests from mesothelioma researchers in need of samples.

“Mesobank has been created to establish a bioresource of pleural mesothelioma tissue linked to detailed anonymised [made anonymous] clinical data,” says Dr. Robert Rintoul of Papworth Hospital in Cambridge where the mesothelioma tissue bank is housed.

Dr. Rintoul’s introduction to the new biobank appears in the newest issue of Thorax, along with a description of how the facility will collect and house samples.

“Because mesothelioma is an extremely rare cancer, the existence of a tissue bank like this one is extremely important for advancing the research that may eventually lead to a cure,” says Alex Strauss, Managing Editor of Surviving Mesothelioma.
