Surgeon Named President-Elect of National Organization

DALLAS, April 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Michael Mack, M.D., a surgeon on the medical staff of THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano (THHBP) and medical director of cardiovascular surgery for Baylor Health Care System, has been named president-elect of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. In this role, Mack will provide leadership for the more than 5,600 surgeons, researchers and allied health professionals worldwide who are members of the Society.

"Dr. Mack is an outstanding surgeon whose expertise, vision and leadership skills will undoubtedly serve the Society of Thoracic Surgeons well," said Mark Valentine, president of THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano. "He is one of a number of nationally and internationally known physicians on our medical staff, and we are proud of his success."

A Leader in Thoracic Surgery

Mack, who is both medical director of cardiothoracic surgery for Baylor Health Care System and chairman of THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Research Center, plays an active role in the field of cardiac surgery. In addition to serving as the president-elect of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Mack currently serves as president of the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association and president of the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education (TSFRE). He has served in leadership positions for numerous national and international organizations over the past 15 years. Mack also has more than 240 publications to his credit.

Mack earned his medical degree from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed an internship at M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute in Houston
