Sunquest Information Systems Supports New Meaningful Use Guidelines for Laboratories Transferring H1N1 Results
Date:2/5/2010

Sunquest announced that its laboratory data systems help laboratories manage the H1N1 influenza epidemic by facilitating easy transfer of health results to the Centers for Disease Control or state public health departments.

(PRWEB) February 5, 2010 -- Sunquest, a leading provider of healthcare diagnostic information technology and outreach solutions, announced that its laboratory data systems help laboratories manage the H1N1 influenza epidemic by facilitating easy transfer of health results to the Centers for Disease Control or state public health departments. This enables Sunquest customers to meet a number of the new “Meaningful Use” guidelines spelled out in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The new guidelines authorize the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide reimbursement incentives for eligible professionals and hospitals who are successful in becoming “meaningful users” of certified electronic health record (EHR) technology. “Sunquest is connected to more Departments of Health for US States than any other laboratory IT provider in the global marketplace,” according to Kelly Feist, Sunquest’s vice president of marketing.

Specifically, two Sunquest solutions are actively aiding organizations as they strive to achieve meaningful use: Sunquest ICE Physician Portal and Sunquest Outreach Advantage. Physician Portal empowers hospitals to use effectively electronic medical records within their system and their community. As those hospitals connect with local physicians, Outreach Advantage enables seamless interoperability with EMR providers, enhancing relationships while driving businesses towards meaningful use.

“Sunquest’s mission has always been to provide laboratory customers with the tools to deliver meaningful use of their data, and we have been doing that for years," continues Feist. "Our award-winning Sunquest Laboratory™ builds workflow excellence into laboratory operations with such tools as intelligent rules, instrument result auto-verification, customizable patient and management reports, and data access for business intelligence. These tools have been of great assistance as laboratory systems obtain and share accurate data concerning the H1N1 epidemic.”
