Summit VetPharm Offers New Flea Topical Vectra for Dogs & Puppies(TM) For Long-Lasting Protection

"In a study conducted to evaluate the duration of adulticide activity against fleas for Vectra(R) in dogs weighing 21-55 pounds, Vectra(R) began killing fleas within 2 hours following a single application and continued to perform for 30 days maintaining a 100% reduction in fleas throughout the duration of the study," explained Dr. Cathy Ball, Summit VetPharm Veterinary Services.

"Pet owners want fleas killed as quickly as possible to end their dog's suffering," says Dr. Ball. "Oftentimes, the successive feeding activity of fleas on dogs elicits a hypersensitivity skin disorder known as flea allergy dermatitis (FAD). Treatment of dogs with Vectra for Dogs & Puppies(TM) kills fleas and may reduce further evidence of FAD."

Pet owners and their dogs have a variety of lifestyles. Differing lifestyles, coupled with the differing parasites endemic to the area of the country, means their vector protection needs may be different. Vectra for Dogs & Puppies(TM) dual-action formula includes dinotefuran, a fast-acting, third generation neonicotinoid with a novel mode of action and pyriproxyfen, an insect growth regulator (IGR) that controls and prevents the development at all immature flea stages including eggs, larvae, and pupae. Tested with up to five times the recommended dose, Vectra(R) showed no significant adverse effects.
