Grand opening of anatomic pathology lab on April 21

(Vocus) April 15, 2010 -- Summit Medical Group recognizes the week of April 18 – 24 as National Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Week. To celebrate, a grand public opening of its new state-of-the art anatomic pathology lab will be held on April 21, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at its 1 Diamond Hill Road campus. The celebration acknowledges the contributions of all laboratory personnel in bringing the best of comprehensive care to SMG patients. Visitors to the pathology lab will see SMG cytotechnologists:

  • Cut slide specimens using a microtome
  • Create and stain liquid-based slides
  • Cover slides and prepare them for review and diagnosis by pathologists

Berkeley Heights Mayor, Robert Woodruff, will attend the open house to tour the new facility and sign a proclamation designating the week as National Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Week.

The Commission on Laboratory Accreditation (COLA) accredits Summit Medical Group’s onsite full-service laboratory. Additionally, the New Jersey Department of Heath and Senior Services (NJDHSS) has rewarded SMG’s onsite full-service laboratory with a certificate of recognition for having met all necessary requirements as an Advanced Sentinel lab. As such, SMG’s laboratory is prepared for and can respond to a bioterrorism event, should the need arise.
