Summit BHC Names Jon O’Shaughnessy Chief Executive Officer
Date:10/4/2019

Summit BHC (“Summit” or “the Company”), a leading provider of addiction treatment and behavioral health services, today announced that Jon O’Shaughnessy has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Company. He succeeds founder Trey Carter, who has overseen Summit’s impressive expansion to 18 addiction treatment centers in 13 states across the country. Carter will now serve as Executive Chairman and will remain actively involved in Summit’s business strategy, growth and development activities.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to become CEO of Summit, which remains focused on delivering the highest quality clinical care and innovative addiction disorder treatment available today,” said O’Shaughnessy. “I look forward to working closely with Trey and the rest of the Board, executive management and our outstanding team of recovery professionals and employees as we pursue the next chapter of Summit’s growth.”

O’Shaughnessy brings over 30 years of executive healthcare experience, including with some of the largest behavioral health brands where he worked to improve both financial results and quality of care. From 2011 to 2016, he served as Division President at Acadia Healthcare where he oversaw the operations at 19 facilities that achieved consistent year-over-year double digit earnings growth; and he spent 12 years at Charter Behavioral Health Systems in a variety of roles including Senior Vice President for Hospital Operations, where he managed 38 facilities.

Previous CEO positions include Psychiatric Solutions Inc., Capella Healthcare Inc., Murray Calloway County Hospital and LifePoint Hospitals. He holds an MBA from Memphis State University.

“The Board and I are thrilled that Jon has agreed to join Summit as its new CEO,” said Carter. “We have tremendous confidence in his executive leadership skills, operational acumen and proven ability to navigate the complex regulatory environment facing behavioral health today.”

“In addition to his operational expertise, Jon is experienced in successfully integrating strategic acquisitions, which is central to our strategy,” Carter added. “With Jon’s leadership, Summit is sure to continue our growth trajectory and set the standard in behavioral health care.”

“We are excited Jon was named CEO of Summit,” said Chris Harris, Partner at FFL Partners. “His decades of behavioral health management experience and successful track record, coupled with the continued involvement of Trey as Executive Chairman, ensure Summit will continue to provide innovative treatment solutions that result in positive change and improve quality of life for patients and their families.”
