Summer is the worst season for their headaches. Summer tension headaches can be caused by many factors - from America's favorite pastimes - days at the beach, afternoons at the ball game - to the annoyances of the season - the stress and anxiety of bumper to bumper traffic, overexposure to the sun and dehydration, according to Alexander Mauskop M.D., founder and director of The New York Headache Center and board-certified in Neurology,. All these activities - even those that come under the heading of typical Summer fun - can trigger a mild to extreme tension headache, the most common type of primary headache. In fact, as many as 90% of adults experience a tension headache which can last from 30 minutes to an entire month, according to The Mayo Clinic.

New York, NY (Vocus) June 2, 2010 -- Summer is officially underway. Memorial Day weekend kicked off the season and Americans all around the country are starting to enjoy the pleasures of warm, sunny days and beach weekends. But typical summer activities like basking in the sun, traversing crowded highways and staying in the hot sun for hours can have serious side effects in terms of creating exasperating headaches.

According to a National Headache Foundation survey, headache sufferers consider Summer to be the worst season for their headaches. Summer tension headaches, according to Alexander Mauskop M.D., founder and director of The New York Headache Center and board-certified in Neurology, can be caused by many factors - from America's favorite pastimes - days at the beach, afternoons at the ball game - to the annoyances of the season - the stress and anxiety of bumper to bumper traffic, overexposure to the sun and dehydration.
