WHY: According to a report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services[1], obesity costs private employers an estimated $13 billion per year. A separate article from Health Affairs[2], noted that overweight and obesity is responsible for an estimated 27 percent of annual trend in medical premiums paid by private employers. Employers, patients, health insurers and health care providers struggle without any consistent strategy for overcoming the epidemic. Members of the STOP Obesity Alliance are working individually and collectively to develop innovative programs that provide direction and solutions to overcome obesity.
