QUINCY, Mass., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, Giant Food and General Mills are teaming up to donate $75,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure with the Pink for the Cure Program.
"October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month," said Stop & Shop/Giant Consumer Advisor Andrea Astrachan, "and by purchasing 'Pink for the Cure' items at Stop & Shop or Giant, customers can support the fight against breast cancer and help us donate to this worthy organization."
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists tapped into 15,000 communities across the country, fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, nearly $1 billion has been invested to fulfill their promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
Stop & Shop and Giant Food, longtime supporters of causes that fund cancer research and care, are adding Komen for the Cure to the list of worthy charities they support. "Like Komen, we believe in giving back to our communities," said Stop & Shop/Giant CEO Jose Alvarez. In addition to the "Pink for the Cure" items in stores, customers also can purchase pink reusable shopping bags. A limited number of bags are available at each Stop & Shop and Giant store, and the bag's manufacturer, Earthwise, also will make a donation to Komen for each bag purchased.
