Statement by American Dental Association President John S. Findley on Passage of H.Res. 204, a Congressional Resolution Congratulating the Association for its 150 Years of Service
Date:5/13/2009

WASHINGTON, May 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "On behalf of the 157,000 members of the ADA, its officers and its staff, I would like to thank Congressman Mike Simpson for sponsoring -- and the House of Representatives for passing -- a resolution yesterday congratulating the ADA on its 150th anniversary, which the Association celebrates this year.

"Though always vigilant on behalf of its members, the ADA nonetheless devotes considerable time and resources advocating for public health measures like community water fluoridation and initiatives to improve access to oral health care services for all Americans. And of course, everyone recognizes the ADA's role in emphasizing the benefits of prevention of disease through good oral hygiene. The ADA has always worked under the assumption that improving the public's health and promoting the interests of dentistry are not mutually exclusive. In fact, one is essential to the success of the other.

"So, again, we thank Reps. Simpson, Steve Buyer, Donna Christensen and the rest of the House of Representatives for passing the resolution. It is truly moving to receive such recognition."

Celebrating its 150th anniversary, the not-for-profit ADA is the nation's largest dental association, representing more than 157,000 dentist members. The premier source of oral health information, the ADA has advocated for the public's health and promoted the art and science of dentistry since 1859. The ADA's state-of-the-art research facilities develop and test dental products and materials that have advanced the practice of dentistry and made the patient experience more positive. The ADA Seal of Acceptance long has been a valuable and respected guide to consumer dental care products. The monthly Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA) is the best-read scientific journal in dentistry. For more information about the ADA, visit the Association's Web site at www.ada.org.
