Startup Weekend Tempe Gives Local Entrepreneurs a Crash Course in Starting a Business
Date:6/13/2013

Tempe, AZ (PRWEB) June 13, 2013

Phoenix-area entrepreneurs and startup enthusiasts are invited to participate in Startup Weekend Tempe, a 54-hour hands-on experience designed to take innovative business ideas from concept to launch.

The event, which will take place June 21-23 at Arizona State University’s AREA48 formation space, will bring together entrepreneurs, developers, designers, marketers and product managers to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch startups.

Startup Weekend Tempe is part of Startup Weekend, a global network of entrepreneurs who have built a community of more than 55,000 alumni, thousands of volunteer organizers and 100 trained facilitators across more than 300 cities in 100 countries.

At Startup Weekend events, participants pitch their startup ideas and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then focus on customer development, validating ideas, practicing Lean startup methodologies and building a minimum viable product. Successful entrepreneurs and startup veterans are on hand throughout the weekend to provide expertise and speak about their experiences.

The events culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders, who judge the presentations and award prizes to the winning teams.

“Startup Weekend is the perfect opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to get hands-on experience building a startup,” said Jamison Hill, founder of Repair Report, an online platform that helps connect drivers seeking auto repairs with local mechanics. “I started Repair Report at Startup Weekend Chandler last year, and we now have a beta version of our product, early adopters and some promising potential partners.”

Startup Weekend participants will not only launch a company – approximately 80 percent of participants plan to continue working on their startups after the event – but also learn new skills, build their networks and join a global community of entrepreneurs dedicated to inspiring, educating and empowering individuals, teams and communities.

Tickets are $99 per person and include seven meals. Student discounts are available. For more information or to register, visit http://tempe.startupweekend.org.

Dates & times: Begins Friday, June 21, at 6:30 p.m. and ends Sunday, June 23, at 9 p.m.
