StartUp Health Showcases Digital Health Companies during Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit

StartUp Health, a global platform accelerating health and wellness innovation, showcased a broad spectrum of digital health companies during the New Venture Healthcare Challenge, which kicked off the Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit on October 14-16 in Cleveland, OH.

The diverse group of digital health startups which focus on solving some of the biggest healthcare challenges around chronic disease, presented to an expert panel of judges and a live audience who evaluated each company’s pitch and business model. The judges and audience then voted to determine the New Venture Healthcare Challenge winner, as well as several other awards including the Future of Medicine, the Clinician’s Impact, and the Social Impact awards.

Kinsa, a company building a platform for the world’s first system to track the spread of disease in real time, was named the New Venture Healthcare Challenge winner and also named the Business Model Award winner. StartUp Health company Aver Informatics, a digital health startup improving the design of aggregated health data for bundled payment models, improving healthcare costs and care, was also named a New Venture Healthcare Challenge finalist.

The seven companies recognized with awards at the Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit include:

AdhereTech Wins Clinician’s Impact Award
AdhereTech has built a patented smart pill bottle to improve medication adherence. The bottle automatically determines the amount of medication in real-time, and wirelessly transmits this HIPAA-compliant data to the cloud via Verizon network.

Aver Informatics Awarded New Venture Healthcare Challenge Finalist
Aver is a digital health startup improving the design of aggregated health data for bundled payment models, improving healthcare costs and care.

Care at Hand Wins Social Impact Award
Care at Hand empowers lay caregivers to detect early health decline leading to fewer admissions and better medication compliance. Home care workers answer simple surveys and algorithms trigger alerts to care coordinators. Care is managed outpatient and payers save money.

Kinsa Wins New Venture Healthcare Challenge and Business Model Award
Kinsa is creating a real-time map of human health, beginning with contagious illness. The mobile-enabled data will help parents keep children healthy.

Oxitone Medical Wins Clinician’s Impact Award
The Oxitone wrist-worn, pulse-oximeter device, continuously monitors blood oxygen, pulse rate, activity, sleep and breathing pattern and generates alerts in emergency situations to facilitate early clinical intervention.

QMedic Wins Future of Medicine Award
QMedic is a wearable sensing platform that provides connectivity between seniors and caregivers. Worn as a wrist bracelet or neck pendant, QMedic passively monitors physical activity, sleep, balance, and falls in real-time.

WalkJoy Wins Future of Medicine Award
WalkJoy developed a ground-breaking portable, compact, discreet wearable device that aids in the restoration of gait and balance disorders due to peripheral neuropathy or other indications.
