According to ESTA, ASPCoP defines the operations, standards and methods by which metered gas consumption data is read and supplied to customers and energy suppliers.
By providing a regularised system, it ensures that customers have assurance about the installation and data accuracy, as well as the service levels they will receive from ASPs accredited under ASPCoP.

Over the past five years of gas AMR installations, we have proven that 'doing it right’ is the only successful and cost-effective way to work.”
Customers who choose an accredited ASP, such as Stark, for their gas AMR will benefit in three ways:
1. Safety: installations will be undertaken by competent, well trained people, who understand and know how to identify potential hazards and who operate with safety in mind.
2. Security: customers have the peace of mind of knowing that the devices are safe, are compliant with all relevant legislation, and have been installed appropriately.
3. Accurate bills: one aim of the code of practice is to agree and implement a common data format, so that ASPCoPs can forward the meter data to suppliers for billing purposes. This means customers will be billed for their gas usage on real reads rather than on estimates.
Howard Stark explained how the new code of practice also benefits the industry: “The CoP ensures that we remain responsible for our devices for their lifetime - as other parties may need to connect to them in the future - and that we dispose of old devices responsibly.’’

About Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)
