St. Petersburg Treatment Center Announces New Program to Address Age-Specific Substance Abuse Issues
Date:12/23/2013

St. Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) December 23, 2013

A St. Petersburg treatment center is announcing a new program that addresses age-specific substance abuse issues is being started through Drug Addiction Treatment Centers.

According to statistics provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, "In 2012, among adults aged 18 or older, age at first use of marijuana was associated with illicit drug dependence or abuse. Among those who first tried marijuana at age 14 or younger, 13.2 percent were classified with illicit drug dependence or abuse, which was higher than the 2.2 percent of adults who had first used marijuana at age 18 or older. Among adults, age at first use of alcohol was associated with alcohol dependence or abuse. In 2012, among adults aged 18 or older who first tried alcohol at age 14 or younger, 16.1 percent were classified with alcohol dependence or abuse, which was higher than the 3.6 percent of adults who had first used alcohol at age 18 or older."

The new program at Drug Addiction Treatment Centers will help adults and adolescents get a grasp on where their "casual use" of drugs turned into a chronic dependency that led them into treatment.

Cocaine, heroin, Oxycontin and benzodiazepines are some of the drugs that the treatment center helps people get rid of from their lives. Alcoholism also is a problem, one that is not just swept under the rug and forgotten.

Ultimately, the program's bottom line is to help all clients leave the addiction treatment center with a structure in place for life outside of it. People come into these types of centers looking either for a new life or relief from their pain, and counselors and therapists on staff are ready to help.

Entering the St. Petersburg rehab center gives clients a new chance to be responsible members of society once again. They come to find themselves, discover new levels of self-esteem, and a spirituality that works.

Once people leave the treatment center, outpatient care and support is strongly suggested by counselors. Transitioning back into the “real world” takes time, too, and outpatient treatment allows clients an opportunity to share their victories and struggles with like-minded people. When it’s all put together, from detoxification to outpatient care, the substance abuse treatment center gives people a second chance.
