Spine & Sport President Jacques Beauchamp Committed to Raising 40K as Candidate for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year

(PRWEB) March 10, 2015

Jacques L. Beauchamp, President of Spine & Sport, is competing for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Man of the Year Award. The Man and Woman of the Year awards are fundraising efforts for LLS, with every dollar raised counting as a vote. Candidates for Man and Woman of the Year compete in honor of children who are local blood cancer survivors. Through this campaign, LLS has been able to invest more than $1 billion in blood cancer research. Beauchamp will help raise funds for LLS, with an overall goal of raising $40,000 for the organization.

Through his work as a Savannah physical therapist, Beauchamp has had a personal connection to LLS, having been in contact with numerous patients personally coping with blood cancer or dealing with other blood cancer patients, as his practice has been serving on the front lines in bringing recovering patients back to health after treatment has been initiated.

“I have personally witnessed the important role a patient’s frame of mind plays in the rehabilitation of a major illness or injury,” says Beauchamp. “I want to bring hope to those diagnosed with an LLS condition.”

Spine & Sport will be hosting several events to raise funds for the cause. All proceeds will go to LLS. The following events will take place this March:

? $15 Pasta Dinner on March 27: Spine & Sport will team with Granite Restaurant and Bar, located at 300 Drayton Street in Savannah across the road from where packet pickup is located for Publix Women’s Half, to host a pasta dinner from 4:30-7:00 p.m. The dinner will include spaghetti, salad and bread. Drinks will also be available (martinis for $5 and wine for $4.) Those participating have the option to dine in or take out.

? Dating with the Docs on March 31: Spine & Sport will be auctioning off single doctors and others affiliated with healthcare (e.g., physicians, nurses, those in pharmaceutical sales). There will be 10 men and 10 women up on the block. Each date comes with dinner for two at an upscale local restaurant. The event will be held at Savannah Smiles Dueling Pianos, located at 314 Williamson Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

According to LLS, one person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer approximately every three minutes. An estimated 1,185,053 people in the U.S. either live with, or are in remission from, leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. The five-year relative survival rate for leukemia has more than quadrupled since 1960; however, there is still more work to do. Someone in the U.S. dies from a blood cancer approximately every 10 minutes—nearly 152 people every day, or more than six people every hour. (1)

In operation since 1949, LLS is the world’s largest voluntary nonprofit health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, providing education, and patient services. Because of fundraising efforts in 2014 alone, LLS was able to invest $79.8 million in research, including funding for 106 new grants to researchers in academic institutions; support more than 350 research projects in the U.S., Canada and seven other countries; sponsor scientific conferences around the country; produce educational materials and videos; and run dozens of Family Support Groups nationwide.

Other Spine & Sport fundraisers for LLS currently being planned include a gourmet dinner and wine pairing at the Isle of Hope Marina; a 007 Monte Carlo Casino Night; and a Kentucky Derby party complete with mint juleps and an outdoor party with auditions and board betting to be held on May 2nd.
