About SEARHC
SEARHC was established in 1975 under the provisions of the Indian Self-Determination Act. The intent of this legislation was to have Indian Health Service (IHS) programs and facilities turned over to tribal management. SEARHC began contracting with IHS in 1976 when it took over management of the Community Health Aides Program. In 1982, SEARHC assumed management of the IHS clinic in Juneau (the Ethel Lund Medical Center) and in 1986 SEARHC began managing Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka.
