Date:10/26/2009

SOUTH PASADENA, Calif., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- An evening under the stars at the South Pasadena Cancer Center drew hundreds of distinguished guests from the State, local cities and medical and business communities as the South Pasadena Cancer Center officially opened with a ceremonial ribbon cutting last Thursday night.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich and California Assemblymember Ted Lieu paid special recognition to the Center and Dr. Helen Chen along with mayors from five cities throughout the County. Mayor Mitchell Ing of Monterey Park and Vice Mayor Stephen Sham of Alhambra also recognized the South Pasadena Cancer Center and its physicians for their ongoing work in medicine and cancer research.

Dr. Lawrence Weiss opened the evening with special thanks to the many elected officials in attendance all of whom supported the Center, including Mayor Pro Tem of South Pasadena, Dr. Richard Schneider, Mayor of San Marino, Eugene Sun and Mayor of Walnut, Joaquin Lim. Dr. Weiss then announced South Pasadena Cancer Center's development of the California Cancer Specialists Foundation for Cancer Care & Education, a non-profit foundation dedicated to the expansion of community programs in cancer treatment, prevention and awareness.

With over 180 physician experts in cancer, California Cancer Specialists Medical Group developed the South Pasadena Cancer Center as the first of several centers designed to expand its reach into local communities. Within Southern California, it is the only free standing outpatient cancer center of its kind to offer medical oncology, surgical oncology and radiation oncology specialties within one location. The center has been recognized by several local newspapers for its unique design and patient centered approach to cancer care.
