South Florida HIE Phase II Completed and Phase III Awarded
Date:10/31/2007

MIAMI, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Pensacola, FL-based Cogon Systems, Inc. has completed deployment of the health information exchange (HIE) for South Florida known as the South Florida Health Information Initiative (SFHII). Authorized physicians and staff of participating providers who undergo a short training session will be able to log onto the system and search for patient data from multiple healthcare organizations.

Built using the Community MOMENT OF CARE(R) platform, a Microsoft .NET connected platform utilizing Windows(R) Communication Foundation (WCF), SFHII employs the most up-to-date web service technology. By employing this architecture and incorporating this technology, the system provides the framework for interoperability and can easily be extended to include additional providers, payers and ancillary services to increase functionality and depth of data.

"Our service-oriented architecture coupled with a secure web service strategy leveraging existing standards such as the Continuity of Care Record will allow clients such as the SFHII to address a variety of business and clinical needs," says Dr. Huy Nguyen, CEO of Cogon Systems, Inc.

Phase III has begun with Cogon Systems conducting a data integration assessment to determine how local hospitals and providers would participate in the HIE. As part of this project Cogon Systems will train and provide technical assistance for the HIE participants. Completion of Phase III will be in September of 2008.
