Sound Surgical Technologies' Chief Technology Officer Presents Paper on Focused Ultrasound Technology

PORTLAND, Ore., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Mark E. Schafer, Chief Technology Officer at Sound Surgical Technologies LLC and internationally recognized expert in ultrasonic technology, recently presented a paper on high intensity focused ultrasound at the 157th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in Portland, OR.

"The growing use of high intensity focused ultrasound, or HIFU, has driven the need for reliable, reproducible measurements of the acoustic fields," said Dr. Schafer. "Standardizing the measurements of this energy source will allow us to better utilize the technology."

Dr. Schafer was chosen to present on this topic to his peers due to his vast experience in the field of ultrasonic energy. He is currently Vice President of the Ultrasonic Industry Association (UIA), Chairman of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Ultrasound Technical Committee, and serves on the Board of Governors of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). He has been published over 40 times and has been issued 13 patents.
