CEO highlights new hospitalist HIDI(TM) process at the 2009 Annual Congress of the American College of Healthcare Executives

SEATTLE, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Hospital executives find themselves in a challenging financial environment with almost 50 percent of America's hospitals now operating at a financial loss, according to the American Hospital Association. Hospital leaders seek to control costs while maintaining clinical quality and retaining physicians and caregivers. The challenge is unprecedented.

"Sound Inpatient Physicians is at the forefront of addressing the financial and clinical issues facing hospital medicine today," notes Robert Bessler, MD, president & CEO of Sound Inpatient Physicians, a leading hospitalist company. "We have invested in people, technology, and processes uniquely focused on helping physicians and hospitals improve outcomes and enhance efficiency for inpatient care. Sound physicians utilize integrated clinical tools to obtain objective data that we use to drive performance. As a result, Sound has demonstrated significantly improved outcomes for over 1 million unique patients while reducing healthcare costs for our partner hospitals."

Sound Inpatient Physicians launched its proprietary High Impact Diagnoses Initiative (HIDI(TM)) process in 2008, designed to drive improvements in the delivery of care for hospitalized patients. Our hospitalist physicians use a proprietary web-based software application to remove variance and optimize quality, utilization and satisfaction in the inpatient setting. The HIDI(TM) process uniquely concentrates on diagnoses where quality, volume and cost converge. The results of the HIDI(TM) process deliver significant improvements in operational and financial performance.

Results of Sound's HIDI(TM) process will be presented by Dr. Bessler at the 2009 American College of Healthcare Executives Annual Congress in Chicago, Illino
