Sokolove Warns Consumers: Know the Facts Before You Take the Drug
Date:3/23/2010

Severe Adverse Drug Reaction is the Fourth Leading Cause of Death in the U.S.*

Wellesley, MA (PRWEB) -- Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) - and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN), a more life-threatening form of SJS – is a severe adverse reaction to a drug, most commonly an anticonvulsant or antibiotic. Adverse drug reactions claim the lives of nearly 150,000 people a year*; SJS and TEN can result in death if left untreated and impact people of any age but are most prevalent among children. SJS and TEN can be a reaction to any medication or over-the-counter drug including Advil, AlloPurinol, Dilantin, Tegretol, and Levaquin.

“Consumers need to be very aware of the potential side effects of any medication they are taking, whether it’s a prescription or an over-the-counter drug. By familiarizing yourself with the facts, you can react quickly if you notice any symptoms and take immediate action in order to prevent hospitalization and possibly death,” says James Sokolove, Chairman of Sokolove Law, one of the nation’s largest marketers of legal services.

SJS affects the skin and mucous membranes lining inside the nose, mouth and lungs and is characterized by rashes, blisters and splotches on the skin, flu-like symptoms, persistent fever, swelling and peeling. TEN is the more severe form of SJS and usually affects a larger body surface area.
