The announcement was made on the occasion of the 2008 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), being held May 30-June 3 at McCormick Place in Chicago. "STO is doubly proud to launch our new website and, with it, debut three new 'Milestones in Oncology' educational programs," said Dr. Carmen J. Allegra, Chairman of the STO Board and Director of Clinical and Translational Research and Chief, Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Florida. "Each of these is a groundbreaking dialogue with the innovator who has shaped major advances in the care of cancer patients."

Located at http://www.sto-online.org, the new website serves as the focus for STO's state-of-the-art educational initiatives. Founded by oncologists in 2000, STO's mission is to speed the discovery and translation of important new treatments to the practice of global oncology. The Society brings knowledge and strategies for critical new developments in cancer treatment into the practice environment of the community oncologist.

The 'Milestones in Oncology' series is the centerpiece of the updated website, with three timely new presentations online now. "Each of these episodes features a world-class physician-innovator who has helped transform the way oncology should be practiced," said Dr. Allegra. "Dr. Paul Goss speaks on aromatase inhibitors, Dr. Eric Winer addresses targeted therapies for breast cancer, and Drs. Thomas Lynch and Mario Lacouture discuss lung cancer at the advent of targeted therapy."

A previous presentation on new treatments for breast cancer, featuring Dr. Larry Norton, is also available. Additional episodes are scheduled for later in 2008. "STO's 'Milestones in Oncology' are must-viewing for the busy practitioner as well as for the clinical trialist," added Dr. Allegra.

The 'Milestones in Oncology' presentations are available free of charge after a simple registration process. The videos can be streamed in Quicktime or Windows Media Player formats. 'Milestones in Oncology' is produced in collaboration with The Oncologist, the official journal of the STO.

About the Society for Translational Oncology

The Society for Translational Oncology, Inc.(R) (STO(TM)) is a professional association promoting the continued education of its constituents and of cancer caregivers and improvement in the quality and safety care issues for the patient with cancer. To achieve that end, STO provides publications, meetings, and enduring materials that serve to shorten the "translational gap" between discovery and deployment to the patient. The foundations of STO's educational interventions are the improvement of physician competencies and strategies for the screening, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with cancer and enhancement of performance-in-practice.
