Skechers Stress Fracture Lawsuits Filed on Behalf of Six Consumers Who Suffered Stress Fractures While Wearing Skechers Shape-Ups, Wright & Schulte LLC Reports

An Indiana woman claims that wearing Skechers Toning Shoes resulted in two stress fractures in her left leg, and a potential stress fracture in the right. After wearing an orthopedic boot, she required surgery on her left knee (Case No. 3:13-cv-00184-TBR). A lawsuit filed on behalf of a Georgia woman claims a stress fracture in her left foot that required a leg brace was caused by the Skechers Shape-Ups she wore for two years (Case No. 3:13-cv-00161-TBR). And finally, a Cleveland, Ohio woman claims Skechers Toning Shoes were to blame for the stress fracture she sustained in her right leg (Case No. 3:13-cv-00177-TBR).

All of the complaints allege that Skechers Shape-Ups are defective due to their rocker bottom sole, which altered the Plaintiffs’ gait and caused severe lateral instability. They further allege that the toning shoes provide no additional health benefits than do regular athletic and walking shoes. An independent study commissioned by the American Council on Exercise concluded: “There is simply no evidence to support the claims that these shoes will help wearers exercise more intensely, burn more calories or improve muscle strength and tone.” The lawsuits also point out that as of May 2011, Consumer Reports has documented that Skechers has seen more reports of injuries or complaints than any other product in its database.
