Sisko Foundation Gears Up to 'Pick Up The Pace Against Breast Cancer'
Date:9/18/2007

RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Raleigh based Sisko Foundation is once again expanding its successful "Raise A Racquet Against Breast Cancer" tennis event with the third annual "Pick Up the Pace Against Breast Cancer" 5K walk/run on Sunday, September 23 outside the RBC Center. NBC-17's Kim Genardo will once again act as official starter.

"We are excited to have the tennis event in the spring and the walk in the fall to kick off October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month" said Sisko Foundation co-founder, and President, Michelle Siler. "The tennis event has been very successful for us, but we wanted to do something that would include people outside the tennis community. A walk is something almost everyone can participate in."

The cost is $25 per participant for pre-registration and $30 at the door. and begins at 1:30 p.m. The race will also serve as a sanctioned and ChampionChip timed run.

The course starts on the grounds of the RBC Center on the arterial road where State Farm and Westchase intersect. The course then runs counterclockwise around the RBC Center, turns right and heads north on Edwards Mill Road. Participants will then turn left back into the RBC Center and continue straight on Westchase to the finish line.

Groups are encouraged to participate. "We would love to have people of all ages, breast cancer survivors, supporters, families and anyone who just wants to make a difference come join us to raise a lot of money to fight this disease," said Siler, who is a breast cancer survivor.

The on site Glaxo SmithKline Health Fair will feature over 20 vendors providing information services and products related to breast cancer and general wellness.

Nearly 4,900 North Carolinians were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and just over 1200 of these cases proved to be fatal. Founded in 2000, the Sisko Foundation's mission is to raise awareness of breast cancer, fund improvements in research and treatment and support breast cancer patients and their families. Since it's inception, the Foundation has generated over $280,000, with proceeds dispersed exclusively in the Triangle.
