Siemens Highlights Its Ultimate Hybrid System at ACC 2009

Artis zee family brings a broad range of imaging solutions to cardiology

ORLANDO, Fla., March 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Siemens Healthcare ( provides imaging excellence and workflow enhancements for cardiology with its ultimate hybrid at the 58th Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) from March 29-31 in Orlando, Fla., at booth #1842. Highlights at the Siemens booth at this year's conference is the first-to-market Artis zeego(R) with small detector(1), which enables cardiologists to work with great efficiency and precision. The Artis zeego is part of the Artis zee(R) family of interventional imaging in cardiology, radiology, and surgery.

"The field of interventional cardiology has never been more demanding. To enhance patient outcomes and remain on the cutting edge, imaging systems need to enable care with greater speed, efficiency, and precision," said Claus Grill, vice president, Angiography, Cardiac, and X-ray Systems, Siemens Healthcare. "The Artis zee family is at the forefront of interventional imaging and offers outstanding image quality, workflow enhancements, and investment confidence."

The Artis zee family includes a full range of configurations to meet virtually any interventional imaging need. The Artis zee biplane system with mixed detectors (20 cm x 20 cm and 30 cm x 40 cm) provides increased coverage ideally suited for imaging structural heart diseases. The Artis zee biplane system with two small detectors (20 cm x 20 cm) enables biplane acquisition with up to 60f/s. The Artis zee ceiling-mounted system features a 20 cm x 20 cm or 30 x 40 cm flat detector and enables flexible positioning around the patient.

The Artis zee floor-mounted system features a 20 cm x 20 cm or 30 cm x 40 cm flat detector and enables easy patient access. The Artis zee floor-mounted with magnetic navigation offers excellent precision in guidewire and catheter steering (also available as biplane solution).

The innovation flagship of the Artis zee family, Artis zeego, is the revolutionary multi-axis system that literally bends to your will. Its unrivaled flexibility makes it ideal for virtually all cardiovascular procedures in cath labs and hybrid rooms.

Artis zeego: Better from Every Angle

Now with small detector, the Artis zeego is well equipped for procedures in interventional cardiology, offering faster positioning for more streamlined workflow than conventional systems. Artis zeego features a flexible working height that makes procedures much more comfortable for the clinical team, as well as unique park positions that enable easier access to the patient.

Artis zeego's exceptional flexibility and outstanding ergonomics enable clinicians to perform hybrid procedures with more efficiency, precision, and comfort. The system can be stowed in a variety of compact positions to make the most of the limited space available in OR environments. Due to its multiple axes, Artis zeego offers complete head-to-toe coverage and the advantage of a variable working height, reducing fatigue.

Ideal for surgical therapy, the Artis zeego, features concurrent image-guidance regardless of setting, and configurations for virtually every need: combo room for multipurpose needs of cath and angio labs, fusion-technologies such as XMR that integrate diagnostic MR and therapeutic X-ray to guide catheters, and OR for less invasive procedures and same-room pre-operative imaging.

Recently, Medical Imaging magazine readers ranked the Artis zeego as one of the top eight innovations of 2008. The products in the poll were considered by readers to be the most far-reaching, game-changing, or otherwise groundbreaking devices on the market. The Artis zeego also won the Frost & Sullivan award for Technology Innovation in 2008, as further testament to its cutting-edge design.

Artis zee Large Display(1)

Whether for applications in interventional and pediatric cardiology, electrophysiology or a variety of surgical specialties, the Artis zee medical grade large display(1) provides superb image sharpness for detecting finest details. As the amount of information increases, so does the need to present all information needed for the next workflow step directly at the tableside.

Featuring a full-color, 56-inch screen the large display enables users to select their preferred screen layout for the planned procedure step at tableside. With its 8 megapixel image resolution, the Artis zee large display serves up crisp views. With up to 12 different screen combinations to choose from directly at tableside, screen data can be organized and viewed virtually any way. And selection from more than 200 layout configurations at setup enables individual windows to be enlarged and altered as needed to match clinical requirements.

Advanced Workflow and Imaging Excellence

Artis zee offers workflow enhancements with advanced tools for stent deployment and verification to help improve clinical outcomes for complex procedures. Now integrated into Artis zee systems, IZ3D(1), a new online quantitative measurement tool, provides high-speed quantification for accurate lesion measurement by generating a 3D model of a vessel that can be rotated freely in space with no foreshortening effects, enabling physicians to precisely assess a lesion's diameter profile and the degree of stenosis. It also enables accurate measurement of lesion length to simplify stent selection.

The Artis zee family also offers IC Stent for virtually instant reconstruction of a stent, while operated at table side with a simple push of the button. IC Stent is a processing package that enhances the visibility of the deployed stent. The result is available in less than 30 seconds. IC Stent is simple and easy to use and helps to improve the long-term success of the interventional procedure.

For improved visualization of coronary lesions, Artis zee provides imaging excellence for motion detection, enhanced vessel edges, intelligent noise reduction, and increased stent visibility. It also provides seamless integration with AXIOM Sensis XP, the first completely integrated recording system to combine electrophysiology, hemodynamics, and reporting in one unit -- all in support of customers' unique workflow. AXIOM Sensis XP offers convenient database management, automated report generation, and seamless integration with the hospital information system.
