Sharp HealthCare and Anakam(R) Partner to Protect Patients' Health Information

Sharp HealthCare now enables trusted access for patients with the Anakam Identity Suite(R)

SAN DIEGO, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Anakam announced today that Sharp HealthCare, San Diego County's largest healthcare system, has selected the Anakam Identity Suite(R) to enable trusted access for patients accessing Sharp's new patient portal. Sharp HealthCare continues to provide excellent healthcare service to meet the needs of its patient community by providing a portal in the near future that will allow Sharp Rees-Stealy patients to access critical personal health information and perform key functions like reviewing lab results instantaneously, making payments, and reviewing electronic medical record information.

The Anakam Identity Suite(R) provides Sharp the assurance of trusted access through a next-generation authentication platform that performs identity "proofing" upon patient registration into the portal, and then delivers cost-effective multi-channel two-factor authentication, without the burden of tokens or cards, and in compliance with federal and state healthcare security and privacy standards.

"At Sharp we are always striving to provide our patient community the best healthcare service and information. The Sharp portal will allow our patients to access their information and perform key healthcare functions anytime and anywhere. Because the nature of the information is sensitive, Sharp wants to provide the assurance to our patients that their information is secure on the portal. With Anakam as a partner, we are able to provide that level of trust while complying with key federal requirements like HIPAA," stated Ken Szymanski, Sharp Vice President, Business Systems.

With the Anakam Identity Suite(R), Sharp not only improves the assurance that the right individual is accessing, viewing, updating, and consenting to information and functionality within the portal but also helps Sharp reduce the risk of medical identity theft and fraud, which has become a concern as personal health information is being brought online.

"Anakam helps healthcare institutions improve their service delivery and prevent medical identity theft and fraud by enabling secure remote access to confidential health information in a cost-effective and scalable manner, without disrupting patient and provider workflow," stated William R. "Bill" Braithwaite, M.D., Ph.D., Anakam's Chief Medical Officer.
