Latest Patent Adds to Company's Extensive Patent Portfolio

ANDOVER, Mass., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Sentillion, the company that created healthcare single sign-on (SSO), announced that it has been issued a U.S. patent (6,993,556) for its technology upon which system administration tooling for the company's context management solution is based. Context management automatically synchronizes multiple applications in response to a single user gesture directed at any application using readily identifiable information such as a particular patient, encounter or observation. The patent covers core technology relating to setting up and maintaining context subject data definitions, intervening in context management operations, and providing security functions to protect sensitive context information against tampering by unauthorized users. Sentillion provides context management as part of its clinical workstation solution, Vergence. The invention covered by the patent makes it practical for healthcare organizations to deploy and maintain their Vergence system.

Using the patented technology, Sentillion's customers have been able to configure their Vergence systems to perform extremely sophisticated context management capabilities. For example, at one healthcare organization, using Vergence, if a physician reviews a patient's record in the hospital's primary clinical information system and then needs to evaluate images from the patient's chest CT, the simple click of an icon to open the PACS application presents the exact image desired. If the patient had multiple studies, then each selection made in the clinical information system results in the PACS application automatically displaying the associated image. Without Vergence, the physician might have to search through several screens, enter a patient's name or medical record number, or scroll through multiple studies searching for the desired result.
