introduce NASMM Senior Housing Locator

CLARENDON HILLS, Ill., Feb. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Association of Senior Move Managers today announced the launch of the NASMM Senior Housing Locator, an online navigational tool developed by SNAPforSeniors to help users find appropriate senior housing more quickly and easily.

Numbering more than 400 nationwide, NASMM members assist tens of thousands of seniors and their families with the physical and emotional aspects of moving each year. With the number of Americans 65 and older projected by the U.S. Census Bureau to top 40 million by 2010, the need for both senior move managers and a way to find senior housing is increasing.

The NASMM Senior Housing Locator is similar to the real estate industry's Multiple Listing Service, and functions much like a traditional search engine. It allows move managers and their clients to search a current national database of 60,000-plus senior housing facilities by categories such as geographic location, facility name or license type. Many listings include upgrades such as photo galleries, virtual tours and information about current availability.

"The Senior Housing Locator allows NASMM members to provide clients with the best possible guidance in yet another aspect of the moving process," said Mary Kay Buysse, executive director of NASMM. "Move managers understand that every senior has different needs and priorities, and with this tool they can help families make educated decisions as they work with their loved ones during this time of relocation and transition."

There are an estimated 5.1 to 7 million long-distance caregivers in the United States(1)(2). The Senior Housing Locator allows senior move managers to narrow the search anywhere in the nation, and then coordinate with seniors and family members to make decisions about appropriate facility placement.

The Senior Housing Locator's database includes listings for all licensed assisted living facilities, residential care homes and nursing homes, as well as select independent living facilities and continuing care retirement communities. In addition to geographic and facility name search categories, advanced search options allow users to screen by care needs, payment options and lifestyle amenities.

"The NASMM Senior Housing Locator provides the most comprehensive and objective information available," said Eve M. Stern RN, MS, president of SNAPforSeniors. "With more than 240 different facility license types nationwide, the senior housing landscape can be daunting to navigate, even for professionals. This navigational tool takes all of the diverse, disconnected information out there and makes it available through a single, easy-to-use resource. It's designed to help people make informed decisions, which ultimately lead to greater satisfaction and ease in the transition to a senior living community."
