New functionality furthers mission to provide timely access and practical
DARIEN, Conn., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- SearchMedica.com, the leading search engine for medical professionals, today announced the availability of PubMed's MEDLINE abstracts at SearchMedica.com. Now physicians can access abstracts from the 5,200 journals included in U.S. National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE index. SearchMedica's MEDLINE abstracts link back to the Pubmed.gov Web site, which allows easy access to journal Web sites, including associated full text articles whenever available online, providing fast access to the most practical MEDLINE abstracts.
"SearchMedica strives to be a one-stop shop for doctors and other medical professionals by aggregating many different resources from a wide range of credible sources," explains Edward Grossman, senior vice president of digital media and acquisitions for SearchMedica. "SearchMedica now contains the best of PubMed, the best online medical journals and more, and this recent modification was driven by user requests."
SearchMedica provides free, open access to the Web's most authoritative content for medical professionals. The new integration of MEDLINE resources keeps with this mission, simplifying the search process and providing authoritative clinical information in fewer clicks. SearchMedica filters MEDLINE results to only connect medical professionals with practical resources. Animal studies, for example, are not included in SearchMedica results.
By default, SearchMedica returns results from "all of medicine," suitable for any practicing medical professional. Specialists, however, can refine their search into any of eight disease categories including cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, pediatric and respiratory disorders. Early feedback from SearchMedica's registered user base indicates the new interface is easier to use and more intuitive. Access to MEDLINE abstracts further enhances this functionality and provides specialists with additional clinical resources.
Even before this development, SearchMedica.com was acknowledged for its outstanding user experience as a recipient of a 2007 Standard of Excellence WebAward.
SearchMedica.com indexes only authoritative medical information, approved for inclusion by medical editors and a physician editorial board. Medical professionals receive more relevant, smaller sets of search results from SearchMedica.com than from mainstream engines, which contain consumer- oriented, paid testimonials and other types of unreliable information. Since SearchMedica.com is advertiser supported, medical professionals pay nothing to use the search engine. All SearchMedica search results are independent and unbiased. They contain well-known, credible journals, peer-reviewed research, and evidence-based articles written for practicing healthcare professionals. SearchMedica is currently available at http://www.SearchMedica.com.
