New Keyboard aimed at reducing cross contaminations including Norovirus and
MRSA
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Seal Shield LLC announced that it has begun shipping the new SILVER SEAL(TM) Washable, Antimicrobial Keyboard. According to the company, the SILVER SEAL(TM) Keyboard is the world's first computer keyboard to be fully submersible, dishwasher safe, and manufactured from SILVER SEAL(TM) Antimicrobial plastic. The SILVER SEAL(TM) Keyboard has been created to help reduce the risk of cross contaminations, including Norovirus and the "superbug," MRSA. The SILVER SEAL(TM) Keyboard is the Antimicrobial version of the company's best selling, SEAL SHIELD(TM) Medical Grade Washable Keyboard (Patent Pending), which was introduced last year.
Norovirus stomach flu is commonly contracted on cruise ships, in schools, workplaces and hospitals. It can be life-threatening to infants, seniors or those with weakened immune systems. The U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) research on a 2007 norovirus outbreak at an elementary school revealed computer keyboards and mice were a source of transmission.
This year over 2 million patients will contract an infection while seeking treatment in a US hospital. Of those, close to 100,000 people will die, making hospital acquired infections a Top 10 killer of Americans. Complicating this epidemic, the antibiotic resistant "superbug," MRSA, has emerged in hospitals and schools worldwide. Computer keyboards have been shown to be a primary culprit for such cross contaminations.
According to University of Arizona scientist, Dr. Charles Gerba, "the keyboard has some 10 million germs." Dr. Gerba also stated that "the keyboard has about 400 times more germs than the average toilet seat."
"The new Silver Seal Keyboard is the best in class, infection control
keyboard on the market. It is manufactured with a true type design for
maximum comfort and ease of use,
