Seahorse Bioscience Enters into Agreement with Primetech Corporation to Bring XF Technology to Japanese Market
Date:5/22/2008

Japanese Distributor to Expand Global Reach of Novel Technology

N. BILLERICA, Mass., May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Seahorse Bioscience, leaders in real-time measurement of cellular bioenergetics, announced today that Primetech Corporation will become the exclusive supplier of Seahorse XF instruments and consumables in Japan.

"Japan's contribution to research and drug discovery is continuing to grow, as we have seen with the recent acquisition of Millennium by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company and with its increasing pipeline of new drugs in development," Mr. Ryosuke Ogihara, CEO of Primetech Corporation said. "Our customers are interested in studying mitochondrial dysfunction, and in particular its role in cancer, obesity and age-related diseases. Seahorse XF instruments offer the only practical way to study mitochondria in whole cells."

Introduced in June of 2006, Seahorse extracellular flux (XF) analyzers provide the first and only method to non-invasively measure the two major energy producing pathways -- mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis -- in living cells. The microplate-based technology allows scientists to assess the impact of drugs, genetic modifications and environment by monitoring the rate that cells consume oxygen and produce metabolic byproducts including acid and carbon dioxide.

"With a now well-established base of users in North America, we are expanding our reach to academic, biotech and pharma customers throughout the world" said Steve Chomicz, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Seahorse. "We have chosen to work with Primetech after seeing their commitment to supporting their customers- an important factor in the introduction of innovative research instrumentation."
