San Jose Cannabis Club Helps Feed Hungry Children with Second Harvest Food Bank
Date:5/21/2013

(PRWEB) May 21, 2013

MedMar Healing Center announces their participation in the CannaCommunity Solutions food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. Twenty-eight businesses, including MedMar Healing Center, doctors, and clubs, are coming together to participate in the food drive. The goal is to raise food to help area kids who have been impacted by the economic problems facing their families in recent years.

“We like being able to give back to our community and help those in need,” explains Douglas Chloupek of MedMar Healing Center. “Taking part in the food drive may seem like a small gesture but, when combined with the others who are participating, adds up to a lot of help for those who need it.”

From now through July 31, 2013, anyone who would like to participate can drop off their food donations at the MedMar Healing Center, located in downtown San Jose at 170 S. Autumn Street. The items that Second Harvest Food Bank reports as being most needed include pop-top tuna, graham crackers, fruit cups packed in juice, cheese and crackers, low-sugar cereal, pretzels, high-fiber cereal bars without peanuts, and 100-percent-fruit juice boxes. The food bank distributed 45 million pounds of food to low-income people last year, serving those in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

MedMar Healing Center is no stranger to food drives. They participated in a food drive during the Christmas holidays, where they helped to raise over 1,800 pounds of food. They also participated in the CannaCommunity Solutions food drive two years ago that resulted in 10,000 pounds of food being collected, as well as others.

“We are always happy to participate in the food drives,” added Chloupek. “People often want to help others but don’t know how. This is how – they can grab some items when they are on sale and donate them, knowing those items will be directly put to use to help others in their own community.”
