San Antonio Chamber Honors Women Business, Community Leaders

SAN ANTONIO, March 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and Ford Motor Company will honor seven women business and community leaders at a luncheon on March 31st who have made significant contributions to the city and region. The honorees are a part of the 2010 Women's Opportunity Week (WOW), Ford Motor Company Tribute to Women Business Leaders. They include Ruth Jones McClendon (Texas State Representative, District 120), Marsha McCombs Shields (President, Red McCombs Automotive Group), Tracy Wolff (President, Green Fields Market), Ruth Berggren, MD (Director of the Center for Medical Humanities and Ethics, UT Health Science Center at San Antonio), Marie Hall Smith (founder and first Executive Director of The Susan G. Komen Foundation in San Antonio), Debbie Montford (community fundraiser), and Sonya Medina (Director of Community and External Affairs, Silver Eagle Distributors).

"Our winners have not only achieved tremendous success in their work, they have also contributed greatly to our community through civic service and philanthropy," said 2010 WOW Committee Chairman Mary Rose Brown, who is Senior Vice President of Administration for NuStar Energy.

"Ford and The Chamber created the Ford Tribute to Business Women Leaders out of our joint desire to recognize women in San Antonio who are breaking barriers," said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund. "We are honored to acknowledge this year's honorees, a diverse group of respected community leaders who serve as an inspiration on the impact one person can make."

The Women's Opportunity Week Awards were created by The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce four years ago under the leadership of 2007 Chairman Brenda Vickrey Johnson. The mission of these awards, which is held each year during National Women's History Month, is to celebrate women leaders who are making a difference in San Antonio and South Texas. The awards honor individuals who embody leadership qualities which have driven not only their personal success, but also the success of those around them.  Tickets and sponsorships are available through The Chamber's website or by calling (210) 229-2119.
