(PRWEB) June 15, 2010 -- The Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas (“BMI of Texas”), which specializes in a variety of weight loss surgery procedures in Texas, today announced it was named one of the “Best Places to Work” in San Antonio by the San Antonio Business Journal.

BMI of Texas ranked number 2 in the Small Business Category (companies with 1-50 employees), earning this prestigious accolade just 18 months after the company was founded. According to the San Antonio Business Journal, more than 150 companies responded to an initial questionnaire published in its print publication and on its Web site. Nominations were sent to Quantum Workplace, which conducted a confidential online survey of employees. The 47 winners were selected based on employee measurement of 37 attributes known to drive employee engagement.

“Our entire team is exceptional and it’s an incredible honor for me and Dr. Seger to receive this award in recognition of our office environment. When we co-founded BMI of Texas, we knew we could provide the best patient care if we had the right team and created a great place to work,” said Dr. Terive Duperier, a bariatric surgeon and co-founder of BMI of Texas.

In an article in the San Antonio Business Journal entitled “Bariatric Medical Institute Empowers Employees,” Dr. Duperier said “Employees are the biggest asset we have…The office is run from the bottom up. We were determined to make an environment where our staff enjoyed coming to work and where they felt empowered to be able to influence us and help the patients.”

BMI of Texas, located in San Antonio's Medical Center area, helps patients achieve their weight loss goals through various surgical procedures including gastric bypass, adjustable gastric band and sleeve gastrectomy. For patients who experience some weight regain after surgery, BMI of Texas offers some new endoscopic procedures, such as Stomaphyx. Endoscopy is a safe, non-surgical technique where the surgeon inserts a scope through the patient’s mouth, down the esophagus, and into the stomach pouch. With Stomaphyx, the gastroscope is inserted into the patient’s mouth down into an existing gastric pouch and ‘sutures’ are used to make the original gastric pouch smaller.

BMI of Texas assists patients throughout their entire weight loss journey. After attending a free, educational seminar, patients are assigned a patient advocate to help coordinate the extensive paperwork and insurance stipulations necessary for surgical intervention. Post-operatively, the doctors continue to follow their patients to ensure long-term weight loss success. As part of its comprehensive program, BMI of Texas offers an on-site dietitian for nutritional counseling and hosts support groups where post-op patients can discuss a wide variety of issues, such as relationships and dietary concerns. BMI of Texas is one of the only practices in the nation that performs fluoroscopic assisted band adjustments in the office. The practice’s Web site includes a calculator for prospective patients to calculate their BMI at www.bmioftexas.com/default/bmi-calculator.

Dr. Duperier and Dr. Seger have been performing bariatric surgery in San Antonio for years, and are recognized by peers and patients for their excellent surgical skills and patient care. Visit www.bmioftexas.com/media-center.html to view the successful results they have helped achieve for several of their weight loss surgery patients. In addition to their bariatric surgery practice, the surgeons perform a full spectrum of advanced laparoscopic procedures, including laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (anti-reflux surgery), laparoscopic colon surgery, laparoscopic pancreatic surgery, and laparoscopic hernia surgeries.
