SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Samplify Systems, Inc., a provider of mixed-signal compression solutions for intelligent data conversion, today announced the selection of its SAM1600 family of analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), integrated with the company's patented Prism(TM) real-time signal-compression technology, as a finalist in EDN magazine's 19th annual Innovation Awards competition. The prestigious Innovation Awards honor the best of the best people and products in electronics design. Now through February 27, EDN's worldwide readership can cast their ballots online to vote winners from among the Innovation Awards finalists by going to http://www.edn.com/info/CA6631770.html?industryid=48661. EDN's editorial staff and editorial advisory board will also take part in determining final winners to be announced March 30, 2009.
According to Tom Sparkman, president and CEO of Samplify, "As a startup launching its first ADC product just last year, we are very proud and excited to have been selected as a finalist for this very prestigious industry award. We are honored to stand with the industry's very best and thank EDN editors and advisory board for not only acknowledging Samplify's efforts, but also for providing a venue where large and small companies alike can be recognized for their accomplishments."
The Innovation of the Year Awards recognizes unique, state-of-the-art electronics products in several categories. The SAM1600 family is a finalist in the ADC/DAC category. The SAM1600 family, integrated with Samplify's Prism signal-compression algorithm, provides a cost-effective and power-saving alternative to brute-force hardware approaches to transport and store large amounts of sampled data within systems. SAM1600 ADCs deliver twice the channel density while consuming only half the power of competing solutions. With these products, Samplify provides a complete, end-to-end compression solution which also includes the Samplify Prism for FPGA and Samplify for Windows decompression engines.
The SAM1600 family includes the SAM1610, SAM1605, and SAM1600. The 16-channel SAM1610 and 8-channel SAM1605 combine 12-bit, 45/65 Msample/sec ADCs with Prism signal- compression and patent-pending port concentration technology. The SAM1610/00 have 16 truly independent ADC channels, keeping crosstalk below the noise floor of the ADC. In contrast, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of pseudo-16 channel devices, which time-share an ADC across two analog input channels, is limited by crosstalk. Samplify's Prism compression engine and port concentration technology reduces the number of LVDS outputs from sixteen to as few as four in some applications. For systems not yet ready to exploit the benefits of compression, Samplify offers the SAM1600 in a traditional ADC configuration, allowing designers to take full advantage of the SAM1600's higher channel density and lower power. The SAM1600 can also be configured as two independent octal ADCs with separate frame and clock outputs to maintain compatibility with legacy FPGA or ASIC beamforming designs. All members of the SAM1600 family are packaged in a 12 mm by 12 mm 196 ball grid array.
The Prism compression engine in the SAM1610/05 is fully compatible with Samplify's existing FPGA intellectual property (IP) and software-based decompression blocks, enabling compression to be used throughout the entire signal chain. Prism compression modes include:
