STAR Center and SPD Foundation Present Informal Webinar Sessions on Topics of Interest to Those Impacted by Sensory Processing Disorder
Date:11/27/2013

Denver, CO (PRWEB) November 27, 2013

STAR (Sensory Therapies And Research) Center, the premier treatment center for children with sensory challenges and the Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) Foundation, the world leader in research, education, and awareness for SPD have created the All-STAR Lecture Series for parents and professionals impacted by SPD.

These informal sessions focus on topics of interest to those impacted by sensory challenges. The staff of the STAR Center presents these lectures, which offer practical tips, suggestions, and strategies for success. Individuals, parents and professionals will benefit from these informative sessions.

The next lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at STAR Center in person or via a live online webinar. “Building a Social Foundation: Understanding the Development of Social Skills” is presented by Carrie Dishlip, M.S. CCC-SLP, one of STAR Center’s speech and language pathologists. Children with SPD often have problems with motor skills and other abilities needed for school success and childhood accomplishments. As a result, they often become socially isolated and suffer from low self-esteem and other social/emotional issues.

This parent-friendly discussion goes over typical social skill development, red flags for social concerns, and what can be done to help children build their social awareness and abilities.

Last month’s All-STAR Lecture, “Surviving the Holidays With a Picky Eater” is now available online. Taught by world-renowned feeding expert, Kay A. Toomey, PhD, this lecture not only offers strategies for travel and dealing with family members during the holidays but also delves into the day-to-day challenges of living with a picky eater and determining when to seek therapy. “I thoroughly enjoyed Kay Toomey’s All Star Lecture on Surviving the Holidays. It was a very clear presentation packed with useful information,” said an online viewer. Dr. Toomey is a pediatric psychologist who has worked with children who don’t eat for nearly 30 years and is the director of the SOS Feeding Solutions at STAR Center.

More All-STAR Lectues are scheduled through spring of 2014. Details and registration can be found at the SPD University. Members of the SPD Foundation are able to view all of the archived All-STAR Lectures for free and receive 10% off other e-Learning training through the SPD University.
