SSI Assistant Vice President Elected to WEDI Board
Date:11/30/2009

MOBILE, Ala., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Mary Rita Hyland, Assistant Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for The SSI Group, Inc., (SSI) has been elected to the 2010 Board for the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI).

Hyland has held a variety of leadership positions at SSI since joining the organization in 2001. She was initially charged with the development and leadership of the Quality Assurance division and Business Continuity for SSI. She later developed an extensive education and training division for both customers and employees, including the creation of computer based training. In addition to serving as the Chief Privacy Officer for the company, Hyland now leads the efforts of regulatory privacy, security, compliance and certification initiatives for SSI pertaining to EHNAC, SAS 70 and CORE/CAQH.

WEDI, a not-for-profit user group for EDI-users in public and private healthcare, was established in 1991 in response to a challenge from then Secretary of Health and Human Services, Louis Sullivan, MD. The challenge brought together a consortium of leaders within the healthcare industry to identify practical strategies for reducing administrative costs in healthcare through the implementation of EDI. The 1996 HIPAA legislation designated WEDI to serve as an advisory role to congressional leaders, a role that WEDI continues today via communications to various directors and administrators, including John Halamka (HITSP), David Blumenthal (ONC), Jeanne Lambrew (HHS), Nancy DeParle (White House) and other congressional representatives. WEDI will testify at the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS) hearings in December.

Today, WEDI's membership includes providers, health plans, consumers, vendors, government organizations and standards groups committed to the implementation of electronic commerce in healthcare and EDI standards for the healthcare industry. Regulatory officials from the Center
