SHPS Receives Re-Accreditation from URAC for Consumer Education and Support Program

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- SHPS announced today that it has earned re-accreditation for its Carewise® Health consumer education and support program from URAC, a Washington, DC-based healthcare accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the healthcare industry.

"We were the first organization to achieve the consumer education and support accreditation back in 2005, and this re-accreditation from URAC demonstrates our ongoing commitment to consumer education" said Rishabh Mehrotra, president and CEO of SHPS. "URAC accreditation is critical to the success of our Carewise Health program, and it reinforces our mission to create person-centric healthcare programs."

SHPS provides employee health solutions through its Carewise Health brand. By combining multiple health management services into one holistic program, Carewise Health is able to co-manage all of the lifestyle and clinical issues that affect a person's health. This unique approach improves personal health and reduces employer healthcare costs.

"By applying for and receiving the consumer education and support accreditation, SHPS has demonstrated a commitment to quality healthcare," said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. "Quality healthcare is crucial to our nation's welfare and it is important to have organizations that are willing to measure themselves against national standards."

URAC has a modular approach to accreditation which allows for a diverse range of healthcare organizations to apply for URAC accreditation with the flexibility to achieve accreditation for a wide spectrum of managed care services. This approach adapts to the continuing evolution of the healthcare system. Each module is a set of standards established for a particular healthcare function.

The consumer education and support standards accreditation is effective through October, 2012.
