Rosacea Awareness Month Honored by Dermatologists Using Vivacare to Deliver Rosacea Patient Education
Date:4/5/2010

Dermatologists using Vivacare's patient education service now provide in-depth rosacea resources in honor of Rosacea Awareness Month to help build awareness of this chronic skin condition and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

(PRWEB) April 5, 2010 -- Rosacea afflicts 16 million Americans and most of them don't know it, but the public can now learn more about this chronic skin disorder from their own dermatologist.

The National Rosacea Society has designated April as National Rosacea Month to alert the public of the warning signs of rosacea and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. In support of this effort, Vivacare has provided in-depth rosacea education resources to the 3,000 dermatologists that use Vivacare's "From Your Doctor" patient education service.

Dermatologists use Vivacare to enhance their own practice Websites with customizable patient handouts, patient eNewsletters, and other resources to help patients better understand and manage their skin conditions.

As part of Rosacea Awareness Month, Vivacare has expanded the patient education content regarding rosacea to include patient handouts about the different subtypes of rosacea and rosacea treatment options, including topical medications (Finacea®, MetroGel®), oral medications (Oracea®), surgical procedures, IPL for rosacea, and a rosacea diary. The rosacea content includes links to the National Rosacea Society so that patients learn more about this education and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with rosacea.

"Our goal is to help physicians help their patients", said Dr. Mark Becker, pediatrician and President of Vivacare. "We make it easy for doctors to direct patients to relevant and practical health information that supports the doctor's clinical perspective and professional approach to care." Dr. Becker added that "by providing dermatologists with in-depth resources about rosacea, we help them inform their communities about this under diagnosed skin condition and the availability of safe and effective treatments."

Rosacea, also called "acne rosacea" is a non-contagious, chronic skin condition found most commonly in people 30 to 60 years of age. It causes facial redness that becomes more persistent. Visible blood vessels may appear and, left untreated, bumps and pimples may develop. In severe cases, the skin may become swollen and bumpy, particularly on the nose. Eye symptoms can also affect many people with rosacea. The recommended treatment options depend primarily upon the severity and subtype of rosacea.
