"We are very proud to have them join the 82 Roche pharmaceutical employees recognized since TWIN began 35 years ago."
TWIN, which stands for Tribute to Women and INdustry, is sponsored by the YWCA of Bergen County to recognize women who have achieved responsible managerial, executive or professional positions and have made noteworthy contributions to their industries.
Nancy Shore DiLella, J.D., is senior counsel and managing attorney in the Corporate Law group, responsible for managing two legal teams, a regulatory legal team and the litigation group. She provides counsel on a myriad of legal issues involving products, commercial operations, functional areas, and litigation matters. DiLella has been instrumental in developing a variety of corporate policies and processes to help ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, and she has played a major role in advising the company on complex commercial and government pricing issues.
"I am proud of the contributions Roche has made in the health care arena, and it has been a privilege for me to play a small role in it. It is an honor to be recognized with the TWIN Award and I am thankful to those individuals at Roche who have mentored me over the years and contributed to my professional development," said DiLella, who earned a B.S.N. in 1988 from
"Nancy exhibits at all times the highest levels of business acumen, leadership, integrity and teamwork. She continuously strives for excellence in her own performance as well as serving as a mentor to others within the department," said Rick Kentz, Roche vice president, secretary and general counsel.
Theresa Martinez, marketing director for Pegasys, led her team in a "back-to-basics" Success campaign in the last 18 months that differentiated Pegasys through its efficacy, safety and ease of use - a message that embodied what both physicians and patients were looking for in a hepatitis C treatment. The campaign resulted in record sales results. Martinez' strong managerial and leadership qualities, including a key focus on the professional development of her team members, kept the team highly engaged and focused on driving business success.
"I was pleasantly surprised with being given the TWIN award. The success I achieved is very much a result of a team effort. I feel fortunate and blessed to be around very dedicated and hard-working people; I would not have been able to achieve such success without them," said Martinez, who grew up in the Philippines and never dreamed that much of her life would be spent outside the home she knew. In fact, she has had the opportunity to work in many different positions in various countries including the U.S., where she joined Roche four years ago as brand director in Hepatology and was promoted to marketing director in 2007. Before that, she worked for 10 years for Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corp., starting as a sales representative and rising to positions in strategic planning, division management and product management. She holds a B.S. in engineering from De
"Theresa's passion for understanding patient and physician needs has resulted in programs that have supported the hepatitis C community in their efforts to successfully treat this disease," said Tom Klein, vice president, Virology Sales and Marketing. "Under her direction, Pegasys has clearly established itself the market leader, and the value of the franchise has grown dramatically within Roche."
Linda Lee-Mathieson, director of Clinical Management, Pharma Development Operations, oversees more than 200 professional staff and is accountable for the delivery of global clinical studies being done to assess the safety profile of a number of important drugs, particularly in the areas of cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, viral infections, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Her group ensures all FDA regulations and Good Clinical Practice guidelines are met for each study, and also manages a huge volume of data required for drug registration and approval.
"One of the most rewarding things about working for a company like Roche is that the products we bring to market make a difference in the world and I feel very satisfied that I have been able to be make a contribution. I was surprised and feel very honored that I have been recognized with a TWIN Award. The people who have received this award previously are real role models and I am honored to join their circle," said Lee-Mathieson, who came to Roche 32 years ago as a lab associate in Preclinical Central Nervous System (CNS) research.
In 1981, she joined the newly created Clinical Data Management group and held positions with increasing responsibilities in data management and clinical operations before being named to her current position in 2006. She earned a B.S. in psychology from St. Peter's College, Jersey City, N.J., and attended Fairleigh Dickenson Graduate School for Psychology.
"Linda has a deep knowledge base and a strong technical background, but her greatest value is her well-developed leadership qualities. She is seen as a true leader by her peers, her group and her counterparts around the world," said Cindy Dinella, PharmD, vice president, Drug Regulatory Affairs. "She also has a superb range of interpersonal skills and is viewed as an excellent coach and mentor. A less tangible, but extremely important asset, is the high degree of emotional intelligence and empathy that Linda possesses."
