Rise Against Hunger Celebrates World Food Day in a BIG WAY by Attempting to Break a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Title
Date:10/13/2018

This World Food Day – Tuesday, October 16 – Rise Against Hunger will show the world that it IS possible to end hunger by 2030 by breaking a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title with volunteers around the globe. The organization will to bring volunteers from several of their 28 U.S. based locations and five international locations together to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Most people assembling hunger relief packages simultaneously (multiple venues).

“2030 is just 12 short years away and we are hopeful that breaking a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title on World Food Day will showcase just how important it is to get involved with ending hunger,” said Rod Brooks, President and CEO of Rise Against Hunger. “It will be simply remarkable to see volunteers from all around the world literally join hands together at the same time to package meals.”

Over the past 20 years, Rise Against Hunger has built a global movement to eliminate world hunger by 2030, and the organization’s GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS attempt on World Food Day is an innovative, exciting way using marketing to energize people to do just that. By building resilient, self-sufficient and empowered communities around the globe, the organization strives to end hunger for the 821 million people worldwide who do not receive enough food to live healthy, active lives.

“This GUINNESS WORLD RECORD title attempt truly represents marketing with a mission,” said Tom Barbitta, Chief Marketing Officer of Rise Against Hunger. “By using an out of the box idea to draw attention to our movement, we will galvanize people worldwide around ending hunger. Ending hunger by 2030 is, in fact, possible and we know this initiative will take us another step closer.”

World Food Day — founded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) — is a day to publicly show commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 – to achieve #ZeroHunger by 2030. The FAO will also be encouraging people to get involved on World Food Day.

“As this year theme calls on all of us to work together to take action for #ZeroHunger, we are pleased to see Rise Against Hunger mobilizing individuals to take action around the world, while gaining recognition from the Guinness World Record indicating the power of collective action,” said Vimlendra Sharan, Director of FAO North America

Regardless of your location on the map, Rise Against Hunger wants people around the globe to celebrate this exciting day. The organization is committed to donating one meal in honor of every person who signs their pledge to end hunger on October 16. Here are a few ways to participate this World Food Day:

A September 2018 report from the FAO showed that while there has been an overall decrease in the percentage of the world’s population facing hunger since 1990, the number of hungry people increased in 2017. That is why now, more than ever, Rise Against Hunger encourages people around the globe to join the movement to end hunger. World Food Day is the perfect time to act!
