Who says business and pleasure don't mix?

ROUSES POINT, N.Y., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Settled in 1783 by Canadian refugees, Rouses Point is not only on the northernmost border of New York State, it's also where Lake Champlain meets the rest of the world.

Named after Jacques Rouse, an early settler in the area, the village grew gradually from land grants awarded to soldiers of the Revolutionary War. Steamboats soon became a major business in the village. Although the steamboats are gone now, there are several excellent marinas servicing private and commercial sailors from both sides of the border. And, in the last ten years, 15 new businesses settled in to expand the population to more than 2,400.

The emerging branded company employs nearly 800 at the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility acquired from Wyeth along with several hundred of its highly-skilled workforce. Rouses Point Pharmaceuticals is another firm taking advantage of the low electric rates and affordable commercial real estate. Families and individuals have also been attracted to the village finding affordable homes in a simply spectacular setting.

There are excellent primary and secondary public schools in Rouses Point, where a few miles south SUNY Plattsburgh offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in many academic disciplines. Half a day's drive south are several Ivy-league universities like Harvard, Yale, Cornell and Colgate, and directly across Lake Champlain is the University of Vermont.
