Renal Physicians Association Participates in PEAK Campaign

ROCKVILLE, Md., June 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Renal Physicians Association (RPA) supports Kidney Care Partners (KCP) recently launched Performance Excellence and Accountability in Kidney Care (PEAK) initiative. RPA is a member of KCP, a coalition which includes groups representing patients, dialysis providers, physicians, manufacturers, and nurses who work together to improve quality care for individuals with kidney disease. The goal of the PEAK campaign is to reduce first-year dialysis patient mortality by 20 percent by the end of 2012.

"RPA fully supports efforts to reduce mortality in the first year of dialysis, and we commend KCP for launching the PEAK initiative," said RPA President Dr. Edward Jones. "While the evidence basis for determining methods to improve first-year dialysis outcomes is still evolving, PEAK represents recognition on the part of the entire kidney care community that reduction in first-year mortality rates is a critically important benchmark in the overall improvement of CKD care quality." RPA has developed evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, performance measures and implementation tools with the intended purpose of improving the quality of kidney patient care and ultimately, patient outcomes.

The Renal Physicians Association (RPA) is the professional organization of nephrologists, practice managers, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants whose goal is to ensure quality care under the highest standards of medical practice for patients with kidney disease and related disorders.
