Fisher Brings 10 Years of Personal Experience with Complex Rehab Needs
CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael Fisher, a complex rehab specialist, has joined Alliance Seating & Mobility (ASM), one of the nation's fastest growing accredited complex rehab companies. Fisher is an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) in Charlotte, N.C., for ASM (www.alliance-seating.com) and provides power mobility solutions for pediatrics and adults with severe physical disabilities related to paralysis, cerebral palsy, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy and other conditions. He has 10 years of personal experience with complex rehab -- his wife is a paraplegic.
"The best thing about my job is helping the people I serve gain freedom and independence with regard to their mobility," Fisher said. "My clients feel relaxed around me because of my personal experience in having the person I love the most as a paraplegic and in a complex rehab power wheelchair. Giving people a glimmer of hope that life can return to normal, albeit a different level of normal, is what I enjoy and think is amazing."
Fisher holds the ATP certification through Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). Previously, Fisher worked for a small DME company in Concord, N.C., Medical Mobility Center. He became interested in complex rehab when his wife of 38 years, Terry, was fitted for a new complex rehab chair. In March 2006, an ATP delivered her chair to their home. As they discussed how much the chair will help her, Fisher made a casual remark, "I've often thought about going to work with you." He chatted with the ATP about it and visited stores in his area. In the end, he decided to join the industry and has not looked back.
"Michael brings a unique perspective to our team, living with someone who has complex rehab needs. Through a combination of his personal and professional experience, he helps our customers find real solutions to their mobility challenges," said Scott Higley, ASM's Vice President. "Our team is growing stronger every day, ensuring that we provide the best service possible to our complex rehab patients."
Established in November 2007, ASM has grown from three locations to almost 25 in the past year. ASM is responsible for sales and service of rehabilitation equipment and commercially available assistive technology products/devices for consumers with disabilities.
