BOZEMAN -- The public is invited to attend the annual meeting of the Big Sky Carbon Sequestration Partnership to be held Oct. 28 and 29 in Spokane, Wash.

The meeting will address key issues related to the science policy and technology of carbon capture and storage (CCS). Panels of experts will discuss the latest developments in carbon sequestration technologies, the economics of CCS, regulatory and mitigation procedures, energy policies, costs and opportunities in CCS, and national and global carbon sequestration efforts. Both terrestrial and geologic sequestration efforts will be discussed.

Presentations will include speakers from the following institutions: Schlumberger, Portland General Electric, United Power, Northwest Energy Coalition, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington Department of Ecology, National Carbon Offset Coalition and regional universities and national research laboratories.

The Big Sky Carbon Sequestration Partnership, led by Montana State University, is one of seven regional partnerships involved in the U.S. Department of Energy's carbon sequestration program. The partnerships involve universities, national laboratories, private research institutes, government agencies and Native American tribes.

The Big Sky region consists of Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, South Dakota and the eastern part of Washington and Oregon.
